Options for Oakton
Act
*** Take our SECOND SURVEY! ***
Our Second Survey seeks to gather data on public resources, retail amenities and density. Thank you to all who participated in the first O4O survey to measure community concerns! Your voices are making a difference!
*** EYA will be hosting an in-person Design Update on Monday, October 2 to reveal an updated proposal for the AT&T site ***
The developer’s proposal is not the only option for Oakton. Because the developer must get County approval to change the current Comprehensive Plan and zoning for the AT&T site, Oakton residents have an opportunity to influence what is built on the land. We can petition our District Supervisor and our Planning Commissioner, who is the Chair of the Planning Commission this year, to require proffers from the developer regarding specific impacts the proposal will have on our community.
There are many ways to make your voice heard.
Contact Supervisor Palchik (Providence District)..
Contact Commissioner Phillip Niedzielski-Eichner (Planning Commission, Providence District).
Participate in our Options for Oakton Survey and let us know your concerns about the proposed development.
*** Notes from the April 11 Board of Supervisors meeting ***
The Board of Supervisors held a regular meeting from 9am-4pm on April 11, 2023. Most of the meeting was closed to public comment, though it was streamed live on Channel 16 and the internet. The AT&T proposal was included in Action Item #9, consideration and adoption of the 2023 SSPA Work Program.
The Board unanimously adopted the Work Program, but took care to clarify that no final decisions have been made about any of the nominations, which includes the current AT&T plan.
So WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
The Planning Commission staff will begin conducting studies related to the AT&T Site plan. During each phase of this process, they will need the input of Oakton residents. Options for Oakton will meet with the Commission Staff and with Supervisor Palchik to make sure that our concerns are considered and ACCEPTED via changes to the current site proposal.
*** Notes from the March 23 and March 29 Meetings ***
The Planning Commission heard from concerned residents at the March 23 Public Workshop. Although the AT&T Site Plan was included in the 2023 Work Program adopted at the March 29 meeting, Commission Chairman Philip Niedzielski-Eichner (Providence District) committed to working with the community to modify the plan to make it more palatable to Oakton Residents.
The Board of Supervisors will consider and likely adopt the 2023 Work Program through an action item on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 during their regular 9am-4pm meeting.
But WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THAT?
The Planning Commission staff will begin conducting studies related to the AT&T Site plan. During each phase of this process, they will need the input of Oakton residents. Options for Oakton will begin meeting with the Commission Staff and with Supervisor Palchik to make sure that our concerns are considered and ACCEPTED via changes to the current site proposal.
